i like AI. i dont believe AI being capable of generating art is inherently a bad thing.
i don't blindly accept AI art as real art, because i believe AI is supposed to be an assistance tool, rather than the entire art process.
for the sake of getting my point across, i want to talk about the multi-point line tool present in most art programs.
the multi-point line tool is there to assist the user in doing something that they could feasibly do, but with a level of precision that the user can't be expected to get the exact way they want. sure, the multi-point tool can be used to create the entire piece, but it's mostly designed to assist with one thing.
personally, i use the multi-point tool as a referencing tool; i use it to get the vague shape and then draw over it. i believe that the tool on it's own in the middle of a piece is capable of detracting from it, since the use of the tool can appear too smooth depending on how it's used relative to the rest of the piece.
of course, i don't blindly hate the tool, it depends on how exactly it was used and if it was encorporated well into the piece.
i portray and use AI in a way very similar to this. for broad concepts i lack the exact skillset to properly manage, i use AI to get an idea of what can be done, and i use it as a reference; i don't directly use any concepts brought by the AI verbatim, instead i transform it into something that is undeniably my creation.
of course, this isn't how everybody behaves and views it, and since the topic has only become more divisive every year, people have lost touch with what AI was originally designed for, to be an assistant producer, not the entire production.
i understand completely that there are people out there that don't view AI in the same way i do, some make their whole pieces with lines, some swear vengeance against anyone who dare hover their cursor over the shapes section, and this isn't a pursuasive piece, i know my mediocre wordplay and middling charisma isn't enough to change any minds, i mostly just want to share what i think about the use of AI and i dont know how best to end this ヽ(≧□≦)ノ
good post thank you
john carmack made a good tweet about this from a non-art perspective https://x.com/ID_AA_Carmack/status/1909311174845329874
this was something i wrote up one day, its pretty fun to just write about something without the pressure of it being for a project
